Cigar Box Band is a Brazilian Blues/Alternative Rock band that started in 2021. The band is characterized by using different types of cigarbox guitars with slide in their songs. One of the cigar box guitars used is one made with a shovel.
An iconic vocal, a lot of heartfelt wail in the lyrics and well crafted drums describe the band. The band features Germano Renan on vocals, Fred Chamone on cigarbox guitars, Paulo Espinha on drums, and backing musicians Eduardo Sanna (harmonica) and Luciano Porto (bass).
The band’s essence is power Blues/Rock, taking influences from delta Blues, Alternative Rock, Brazilian country music and typical Brazilian regionalisms such as baião and music from Minas Gerais.
The band’s influences range from Seasick Steve, to ZZ Top and Led Zeppelin. The band is from Belo Horizonte (Sepultura’s hometown) which is located in the state of Minas Gerais, where the Serra do Espinhaço, a huge mountain range that contains deposits of iron and gold. It is considered the only mountain range in Brazil, full of peaks and valleys.
The Cigar Box Band musicians are very close to the country side, therefore, the influence of sounds from nature and animals on the sound of the cigarbox guitar and the harmonica is clear.
The band seeks to establish an international career, with shows in Europe and an international fan base. The band is about to release its first album titled “Don’t Belong” with seven new tracks, accompanied by two music videos.
